In Bengaluru on Thursday, August 17, Bellandur Lake once again has started to spill toxic foam. Which has grown to such existence that the near by residence has statred to complain about the strong foul smell. The local believe the reason of this toxic foam lake due to the epidemic in the area.
The toxic foam is so intense that it is giving a tough time to the commuters, who are trying their best to drive away the foam. Near by residents are also trying their best to solve this problem. One of the local Jitesh said that this problem has been here for a long time, this is not the first time it happened. For the past two days, the water level has increased due to heavy rain and with it the has overloaded the whole bridge. Both the local residents and commuters are trying to solve the matter. The people couldn’t stand the smell much long and due to foamy road can’t drive the vehicle properly.
Almost 262 lakes and tanks are in the Bengaluru and Bellandur lake is the most highly polluted lake. In past year also it has spilled toxic foam many times, and on many occasions, it also has caught fire because of its highly toxic. On Tuesday only due to heavy rain all nights the water level raised spilling toxic foam on roads.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is in a sorry state. NGT has completely shut down 76 polluting industries around the lake on 19th April after a fire was caught on the mound of garbage leading to massive pollution in the area.
The green court has asked the Karnataka Government to clean the lake within a month. The NGT also raised questions that why despite repeated reminders from the State Pollution Control Board to take an action to block the entry of sewerage water was not taken. The NGT has strictly told Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to inspect the industries around Bellandur lake.
